The Call to Use God's Gracious Gifts

January 20, 2013 Preacher: Eric Douma

Scripture: Ephesians 4:7–4:16

In the book of Ephesians Paul addressed Christians who were starting to deny the sufficiency of Christ by returning back to magical practices that supposedly would better their lives "here and now." Paul proves that Jesus alone is sufficient not only for salvation, but also for the provision and protection in daily life by demonstrating the supremacy of Christ over all other beings. In Ephesians 4:7-16, Paul explains how the fullness of God's blessings are realized through the various spiritual gifts that Christ has bestowed upon His people. The gifts of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers were given to the church so that we would grow into maturity through the word of God. Maturity means that believers are not tossed "to and fro" by every wind of false doctrine, but instead realize that the fullness of all of God's blessings are theirs by being in the body of Christ.
