Paul's Gospel Came Directly from Christ (Galatians 1:11-17)
February 17, 2013 Preacher: Bob DeWaay Series: Galatians
Scripture: Galatians 1:11–17
In this section of Galatians, Paul defends his gospel against critics who claimed that it came second-hand from other apostles and that Paul got it wrong. Paul claimed that he received the gospel directly from the resurrected Christ. Paul describes his conversion from being a highly motivated Pharisee who persecuted the church to being an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul was set apart by God and called as an apostle to proclaim the gospel to the gentiles. We look at some passages in Acts which cite or allude to Isaiah 49:6 which predicts that Messianic salvation would go to the end of the earth. We must understand all Scripture though the hermeneutic of authorial intent.
