God Shows No Partiality (Galatians 2: 6-10)

April 7, 2013 Preacher: Bob DeWaay Series: Galatians

Scripture: Galatians 2: 6–10

Paul was not in awe of those who seemed to be "pillars" (James, Peter, and John) because Paul knew that, literally, "God does not receive the face of man." In other words, God is not influenced by the status some people have in the eyes of others. We show that Galatians 2:7 is often misinterpreted to mean that there is more than one gospel. It actually says that there is one gospel but in the case of Paul and Peter, two audiences. We discuss how important it is to remember the poor, particularly caring for one another in the body of Christ. We emphasize the universal call of the gospel, showing that the doctrine of election does not negate the universal call or the truth that God does not show partiality. We teach the importance of the church understanding herself as the family of God, showing honor particularly to those members who seem (in the eyes of man) to be less important.
