Is Your Mind Set On The Things Of God? (Mark 8:31-33)
June 2, 2013 Preacher: Eric Douma Series: Mark
Scripture: Mark 8:31–33
In Mark 8:31-33 we find that Peter and the disciples don't understand that the Messiah was to come first in order to suffer for the sins of those who would believe. The disciples believed in a Messiah who would only come in glory and wipe out the enemies of Israel. Jesus' rebuke of Peter and by extension the other disciples, shows the centrality of the atonement of Christ in the outpouring of God's plan of salvation. We will learn in this message that God's plan of salvation revealed in the Old Testament always included a Messiah who would be crucified and raised from the dead on the third day. Beyond this, we also learn of the centrality that the atonement of Christ must have in our ministries if we are to be faithful servants.
