John uses the term “light” to describe the nature of God that was revealed in Christ. Light implies truth, righteousness, goodness, and all that is godly. The Bible pronounces woe on those who call good “evil” and evil “good.” When God saves us, He rescues us from darkness and brings us into His light which is His very nature. The Old Testament prophesies that the Servant of Yahweh would bring light to the nations. We appeal to our listeners to leave the darkness behind and come to the light which is found in Christ.
