The Fourth Commandment: Remember the Sabbath

April 24, 2016 Preacher: Bob DeWaay

Scripture: Exodus 20:8-11

This Sunday's message is an archived sermon delivered by Bob DeWaay on October 1, 2009, which was replayed for our April 24, 2016 sermon. Bob will continue in 1 John as soon as his voice is stronger. There are no discussion questions available for this week.

Title: –The Fourth Commandment– Exodus 20:8-11
In this sermon from 2009, Bob explains the implications of Sabbath under the New Covenant. Jesus offered Sabbath rest for all who would come to Him and take His “yoke” which was contrasted to the heavy burdens of the “yoke” of the Pharisees. The author of Hebrews takes up the theme of Sabbath rest and claims that it is only found in Christ. Citing Psalm 95, the writer claims that unbelief and disobedience kept the wilderness wanderers from entering rest, but that those who believe the promises of God in Messiah enter God’s rest as He did in Genesis. Days of worship are a matter of Christian liberty.
