The commandment to love is foundational for Christian ethics. All Christian fundamentally know that God has loved them and showed them mercy through the cross. Love does not negate moral commands but epitomizes them. God’s love is demonstrated by Christ’s laid down life. We need to believe what God has done to show us love and believe His promises. The world hates us, as Jesus predicted, so it is imperative that we love one another. We end with a gospel appeal to turn from living for self and to live for Christ who died and was raised.
