John addresses the church to warn about a serious problem that characterizes the “last hour.” Antichrists have arisen who are false teachers who trouble the church and oppose the true doctrine of Christ. However, during this same “last hour” dead sinners hear the voice of the Son of God through the gospel and believing, they come to life. When the true gospel is preached and the doctrine of Christ taught, the antichrists will not prevail. The antichrists claim to be specially anointed, but the Bible teaches that all Christians are anointed and only true Christ is the anointed One. We can expect persecution as we live for Christ in this last hour.
