Antichrists left the apostolic church associated with the apostle John. They rejected the true doctrine of Christ. By leaving they showed they were not true Christians. Preaching Christ will purify the church and expose those who are not truly converted. In this same epistle John tells us to test the spirits which implies the doctrines that people teach. Some people have not left the church but are holding false ideas and are being deceived. They need to be carefully corrected, trusting God to grant them repentance. We end by declaring that the gospel is about what God does for sinners who trust in Him and the lie of Satan is about what we think we can do for God.
