We Must Not Fail to Love (1 John 3:11-12)
January 1, 2017 Preacher: Bob DeWaay Series: Epistles of John
Scripture: 1 John 3:11-12
John uses the case of Cain who murdered his brother as a negative example to exhort us to love one another. Christian love is both a message and a command. The fact that the world hates and persecutes Christians underscores the importance that we love one another. We must not compromise the Christian gospel to gain friendship with the world. Cain murdered Abel rather than listen to God and believe that only God can provide the way to come to Him. Envy motivated Cain and is a serious sin. It involves displeasure that God blesses someone else. God has shown mercy to lost sinners through the blood of Jesus which speaks better than the blood of Abel.
