Safe in God's Redeeming Grace (Ephesians 1:7-8a)

April 22, 2018 Preacher: Bob DeWaay Series: Ephesians

Scripture: Ephesians 1:7-8

Those who believe the gospel are safe through God’s gracious work in Christ. This section speaks of redemption which means to be bought out of slavery for a price. God redeemed those who believe through the price of the blood of Jesus. Forgiveness is also part of this. The term for forgiveness in the NT means “release” or the sending off of sins. All who truly know Christ are the redeemed and their sins have been forgiven. The term Paul used in this section rightly translated “lavished” implies that He gives us a super abundance of grace. God will certainly complete His work, keep His promises, and bring us all the way to glory. We see how this idea of redemption is grounded in the Exodus in which God kept His promise to Abraham by bringing his descendants out of Egypt. God said, “When I see the blood I will pass over you.” Jesus Christ shed His blood, once for all, to bring eternal redemption to all who believe
