Don't Cause Believers to Stumble (Romans 14:13-23)

June 3, 2018 Preacher: Eric Douma Series: Romans

Scripture: Romans 14:13-23

In this message taken from Romans 14:13-23 we learn that while Christians really do have liberties under the New Covenant that we did not have under the Old Covenant, we must not exercise them if it causes a weaker brother or sister to stumble. Paul was addressing a situation in Rome in which weaker Jewish Christians were being tempted to violate their consciences as they witnessed Gentile Christians eat food formerly off limits under the Mosaic Covenant. We learn from this that while the Gentile Christians were correct regarding the freedoms they had, they were wrong in causing a weaker brother or sister to violate their conscience. We also learn in this message that a Christian must not violate their conscience because an all knowing God will judge even motives of the heart (1 Cor. 4:5). Come and hear for yourself why it is so important not to put stumbling blocks in the way of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
