Joseph’s Role in Christ’s Birth: Matthew 1:18-21
August 29, 2021 Preacher: Eric Douma Series: Matthew
Scripture: Matthew 1:18-21
In this message taken from Matthew 1:18-21 we examine Joseph’s role in Jesus’ birth. We find that Joseph’s just nature led him to extend mercy to Mary rather than demanding she be stoned and shamed as an adulteress (Deuteronomy 22:20-21). I explain how we know from the Scriptures that Mary’s pregnancy was a result of the Holy Spirit, but Joseph didn’t initially know this. We learn that without Joseph’s mercy, the Messiah’s very birth would have been in jeopardy. We conclude from this that true followers of Christ, who have been given much mercy, must extend mercy as well.
