Jesus’ Followers Must Show Godly Benevolence: Matthew 5:38-42
August 14, 2022 Preacher: Eric Douma Series: Matthew
Scripture: Matthew 5:38-42
In this message taken from Matthew 5:38-42 we examine Jesus’ teaching which forbids retaliation for the individual believer. We learn in this message that while self defense is moral, the pursuit of vengeance and revenge is not. We explain how “turning the other cheek” was about not responding in kind to an insult; it was not about protecting oneself from a physical assault. We learn the main point in this passage is that we must show benevolent love to our personal enemies because Christ was benevolent to us while we were His enemies. Come and learn for yourself what “turning the other cheek” really means.
