The Imminent Return of Christ: A Biblical Look at the “Sign” Verses
September 15, 2024 Preacher: Eric Douma Series: Matthew
Topic: Eschatology Scripture: Joel 2:31, Malachi 4:5, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3, Matthew 24:9
In this topical message we examine the doctrine of imminency concerning the rapture of the church and future day of the Lord.
We learn that the New Testament writers did teach that Christ’s return was imminent, and we also learn that the entire book of Revelation is bracketed by the doctrine of imminence regarding the 70th week of Daniel.
Finally, we examine three passages (Joel 2:31; Mal. 4:5; 2 Thess. 2:1-3) that seem to indicate there are signs that must occur prior to the day of the Lord. We demonstrate, however, that these passages actually support the doctrine of imminence as none of them teach that signs will occur prior to the inception of the Parousia of Christ.
