The Perishable Will be Changed
Preacher: Bob DeWaay Series: 1 Corinthians Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:50–53
In these verses Paul gives details about the change that believers will experience in the resurrection at Christ’s return. There will be the sounding of the last trumpet which will accompany the dead being raised and those believers who are alive being changed.
This section emphasizes the fact that our eternal inheritance means the perishable body being changed to an imperishable one. We discuss the significance of the important theme of inheritance. The believer’s inheritance is mentioned often in Scripture and is linked to the kingdom of God. Those who do not believe in Christ shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Believers will.
We point out how essential God’s promises are for the Christian life. It is necessary that we believe God’s promises for eternity and not assume everything important has to happen now. Our mortal bodies will “put on” immortality. This is God’s promise.
We also warn against presumption which thinks that no moral change now is necessary. We reference Paul’s teaching in 1 Corinthians 6 which indicate that ungodly, immoral people will not inherit the kingdom of God. Yet those who are in Christ are made new by God’s power and live differently.
