Stephen Uses Corporate Solidarity to Confront Israel-Acts 7:52-56

Stephen’s message draws on the Jewish concept of corporate solidarity. People were either “sons of” the true prophets or of those who persecuted and killed the prophets. “Sons of” in this context denotes their moral qualities rather than their genetic relationships. When faced with their own guilt, the Sanhedrin typically reacted with violence. Stephen effectively confronted them with their sin and they were totally enraged. Jesus is both the eschatological Judge and our Advocate with the Father.
