Saul Disputes In Jerusalem (Acts 9:26-31)

March 12, 2017 Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Acts of the Apostles

Scripture: Acts 9:26-31

Saul returns to Jerusalem for the first time as a Christian. The Christians there had to be convinced by Barnabas that Paul was now one of them. We discuss why there are gaps in Luke’s narration of Paul’s life. This leads to an important matter about authorial intent in Biblical interpretation. Luke’s purpose was not to give a full account of everything that happened in Paul’s life, but to describe how the Holy Spirit filled apostles and those who believed through their preaching would bring the gospel to the ends of the earth. The Holy Spirit causes boldness in the gospel and Paul is a prime example of that happening. Boldness for the Christian means that we are willing to speak the truth even when it means that the world hates us.
