Title:  Acts 20:24-25 “Paul Addresses Ephesian Elders Pt 4 The Gospel in Luke-Acts”

By Bob DeWaay

Paul’s address to the Ephesian elders is of great importance in defining the church, her message, and leadership. Sadly, many in church history have gone seriously astray from these key truths and created institutions which have little to do with the church as defined in the Bible. Because of this, we are carefully working through the longest message in Acts which addresses the leaders of the church. In this class we deal with various synonymous phrases about the gospel. The gospel of grace, the word of the gospel, preaching the kingdom, the word of His grace, and other such statements are about the one gospel. To prove this we look at statements by Jesus, Peter, and Paul in Luke-Acts. There are not various gospels, but one. Throughout Luke-Acts there are statements about repentance, forgiveness of sins, grace, and the various people who will be part of the church. There are religious people who reject Christ and unexpected people who believe and are joined to the church. We discuss Jesus’ message in Luke 4 in the synagogue in Nazareth.  There is no valid reason to ignore this unity which Luke clearly intended to convey and suppose there are different gospels for different groups. This class covers many passages which show the unity of the message of the gospel in Luke-Acts. We claim that this same message must be the message of the church throughout the church age.
