Paul Brought Safely for a Hearing Plus Organic and Institutional Church: Acts 23:31-35
September 8, 2024 Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Acts of the Apostles
Scripture: Acts 23:31-35
We discuss several ironies involved with the Roman authorities rescuing Paul from a mob in Jerusalem the plotted to murder Paul. The Jews accused Paul of being against Moses and the temple. It is ironic that they want to murder Paul because he supposedly was against Moses who gave the 10 Commandments, one of which was the forbidding of murder.
Their charge that Paul had brought Gentile into a restricted part of the temple was false. However the Messiah who Paul preached had pronounced future judgment on the temple. It was his preaching of Christ that stirred their ire and threats of murder. The civil authorities of Rome would give Paul a fair hearing which would become various opportunities for the gospel.
We also continue our discussion of the role of the church in her relationship to civil authorities. We claim that the church consists only of those born of God who are His adopted children. The church as defined biblically is not spread be becoming a civil institution. We discuss the reality that Christ builds His church and it is not a self-perpetuating, human institution.
