Geography & God’s Presence (Implications of Luke/Acts) (Pt 2)
March 9, 2025 Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Topical
Taking up the theme of the “mighty deeds of God” from the previous class, we discuss more implications from Pentecost. We study a number of Old Testament passages which predict that God will bring salvation to all people groups on the earth. We study Isaiah 45, Psalm 77, Isaiah 66:18-19 and other passages about God’s Messianic salvation going to the various nations.
The intent of the powerful work of God at Pentecost in Acts 2 is that it is the starting point for Messianic salvation to be spread to the ends of the earth. The intent was not that the temple itself would be the place of the manifestation of God’s glory since Jesus predicted its destruction.
The issue at hand is the false claim that God takes up visible residence in certain places to which people can go to meet God and find miracles. The power and salvation of God is not limited geographically.
We discuss the massive buildings constructed over the centuries in the name of Christianity which do not in fact become the dwelling places of God. Christians may meet anywhere and express their worship of Christ and serve Him by serving His body.
