Redefining the Church - The Bible, Not Church History, Must Define the Church (Pt 5)

Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Redefining the Church

We study a key passage in Hebrews which addresses Christian gatherings. The author of Hebrews exhorts the flock to hold fast their confession of hope in Christ based on God’s faithfulness and His promise to us.

We discuss the simplicity of the local church gathered under means of grace. Massive institutions which are now called churches did not exist when Hebrews was written and are not ordained anywhere in the Bible.

Simple acts of love and care for one another, prayers to God, Bible teaching, and remembrance of God’s promises in Christ are the essence of the local church.

Christ promised to be there when two or three are gathered in His name. We look at church discipline and the meaning of binding and loosing in Matthew 18 as well as Matthew 16.

Jesus Christ alone is the Head of the church and each member of the organic church is attached to Him. We are heard by Him who intercedes on our behalf before the throne of grace. There is no world headquarters of the church on earth. Christ reigns in heave at the right hand of the father.
