After returning to Bethlehem with Naomi, Ruth departs from their abode to glean in the fields. She happens upon the field of Boaz, a relative of Elimelech and a worshipper of Yahweh.

Boaz's excellent character is repeatedly demonstrated through his blessing of his workers; his inquiring about Ruth, the young Moabitess in his field; and his provision for her sustenance and protection.

Their seemingly chance encounter has been orchestrated by Yahweh, the God of Israel, to bring about his covenantal blessings, promises, and everlasting reign.
