Paul Testifies Before Agrippa II (Pt 7)
Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Acts of the Apostles Scripture: Acts 26:27–26:32
This class concludes Paul’s testimony in Caesaria before Agrippa. The next chapter will begin Paul’s dangerous journey by ship to Rome. Here Paul makes his appeal not so much about legal matters, but about the Prophets of the Scriptures and whether Agrippa believes them. This turns into an appeal for faith through verbal interaction with King Agrippa II.
Agrippa remarks that in a short time Paul will convince him to be a Christ. Paul speaks of his wish that not only Agrippa, but all who here him will become like he is, i.e. a believer in Christ. We spend some time discussing the often-controversial issue of whether there is a conflict between the wish for all to be saved and the fact that only some are. We cite various passages which are pertinent to this issue.
In God’s common grace He gives even those who hate Him time to live out their lives with opportunities to turn to Christ. Yet most never do. We have a lively discussion of this matter. We also discuss the issue of God’s providential will and His revealed, moral will.
Christ spoke tangibly to Paul that he must visit Rome. This is not the case for those who live after the times of the apostles. As we live under providence, we have Christian liberty and God still brings us to His desired place for each one which is ultimately to be conformed to the image of Christ.
