Shipwrecked and Saved

Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Acts of the Apostles Scripture: Acts 27:27–27:44, Acts 28:1–28:1

We continue to expound Luke’s narration of a journey on a storm-driven ship. This ship was carrying Paul and 275 other passengers through the Adriatic Sea from the small Island of Clauda to what we learn is Malta. The many details shared by Luke correspond to the realities of such travel during the first century AD toward Italy.

In class we have a slide show which highlights the reality of places, equipment, and nautical terminology which show the historicity of Luke’s narrative in Acts.

In this class we see how Paul becomes a key person on the ship due to the angelic revelation he had received. Some sailors were stopped from killing prisoners and abandoning ship because Paul’s warnings were heeded.

All 276 aboard were able to make it to shore on the Island of Malta because of God’s providential intervention. We also show how the terminology in these verses aligns with its use elsewhere in Luke/Acts.
