A Trip by Sea to Rome
Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Acts of the Apostles Scripture: Acts 28:11–28:16
As Luke continues to be the speaker (as seen by the continued use of ‘we’), we gain specific details about ships, culture, geography, religious beliefs, and local customs of the areas from Malta to Puteoli via Syracuse and Rhegium.
Puteoli at that time was the major port for Rome which was a significant trip by land from there. The places and events are true to the facts of travel and culture at that time. Luke was a very accurate historian.
The larger picture is Paul arriving at Rome where the Lord had indicated that he “must” go. Rome would be the door to the “ends of the earth” spoken of in the Great Commission in Acts 1:8.
Paul met up with believers during his travel by land. We discussion the unity with have with believers everywhere because of the work of the Holy Spirit. Paul had written to Rome three years earlier. Now he arrives there.
