On day 5, God continues to populate the diverse habitats of his very good creation, this time with the first animal life (including birds and sea creatures). Besides looking at the recurring components of days 1 through 6, we focus special attention on the concepts of "living creatures", the "great sea creatures", biblical "kinds," and the theme of blessing. God is shown to be the sovereign, powerful, all-wise Creator who is committed to blessing his creatures, causing them to be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth.

Addendum: As stated in the lesson, the first animal death and sacrifice is alluded to in Genesis 3:21. Additional animal sacrifices are recorded in Genesis 4:4 and 8:20. God's permission for Noah and his sons to consume animals is found in Genesis 9:2-4.
