The complaining that began at the outskirts of the camp at Taberah and spread throughout the camp at Kibroth-hattaavah, now reaches Miriam and Aaron in the midst of the camp, where they challenge Moses' authority as God's authoritative spokesman. Did God's anointing of the 70 elders and their subsequent prophesying at the tent of meeting—along with Eldad and Medad in the camp—negate or diminish Moses' status as God's supreme, authoritative prophet and spokesman in his own day (Num 11:16–17, 24–29)?
