Introduction to Genesis and the Torah: The Structure and Purpose of Genesis
Speaker: Series: The Torah
We conclude our introduction to Genesis and the Torah with an overview of Genesis's structure and purpose. We see how these two aspects are intimately woven together in Genesis's eleven toledot ("generations") accounts, which help divide Genesis into twelve units. As we study through Genesis, we'll see further how these sections can be further work together to form additional sections of varying size and complexity (e.g., some sections taking up major portions of Genesis and others little more than several verses). We also briefly touch on how Genesis is woven into the Torah as a whole, partially through major poetic sections (see especially Gen 48, 49; Num 23, 24; Deut 32, 33).
