We resume our overview of the creation account first by reviewing its primary literary genre of historical narrative. We then see how the narrative unfolds through the creation week, as God brings the heavens and the earth forth from their initial, barren, empty, dark, and watery state (Gen 1:1–2) to a bright (days 1 & 4), fruitful (days 1–3), filled (days 4–6), and very good creation (Days 1–6) (Gen 1:3–31). God finally sanctifies and blesses the seventh day to commemorate his completion and rest from his work on the preceding six days (Gen 2:1–3). We close our study by summarizing the primary theme of the creation account.
