An Overview of Isaiah 1 - Part 2

January 31, 2018 Speaker: Adam Olean

Scripture: Isaiah 1

We resume our study of the early chapters of Isaiah with a bit of review and continue setting them in the context of the scroll as a whole—including the scroll's three main sections (Isa 1–35; 36–39; 40–66); the introduction of Isaiah's first vision (Isa 1); and the twin themes of salvation and judgment woven throughout the scroll as a whole, which also help subdivide the last major section (Isa 40–48; 49–57; 58–66). Following this discussion of the 'big picture', we then turn to YHWH's commissioning of Isaiah (Isa 6), which will set the stage for the sign of "Immanuel" ("God with us") (Isa 7:14ff)
