Genesis 1:2

We continue our study of the earth in its desolate, empty, dark, incomplete state (Gen 1:2) before God completes his "very good" work of creation (Gen 1:31 ESV). We also see how the biblical authors draw on these ideas in contexts of God's creation, blessing, and provision; judgment, cursing, and deprivation; and ultimate salvation and new creation. In the new heavens and the new earth, "the sea", darkness, and "night" will be no more (Rev 21:1, 23–26; 22:5).
