Numbers: Jesus Christ, Our “Lifted-Up One”

February 13, 2019 Speaker: Open Speaker Series: Bible Survey

Survey of the books of the Bible. He begins by examining the FLIGHT characteristics of Numbers: Facts – Landmarks – Itinerary – Gospel – History – Travel Tips. There is a description of the arrangement of the Israelite camp and shows that it may have been in the shape of an enormous cross. He lists the restrictions that were imposed under the Nazirite vow. The most famous words of the Book of Numbers: the Aaronic Blessing. He retells the accounts of two rebellions against God: the incident of the spies who brought back a bad report and the rebellion of Korah. Instructions given to Israel (tassels on garments and the red heifer) and the incident with the bronze serpent have ties to the New Testament: Luke 8:43-44; Heb. 9:13-14, 13:11-12; John 3:14-15. He explains significant aspects of the narrative of Balaam and his talking donkey. Concludes with an examination of the puzzling test for adultery (Num. 5:11-17, 23-24) and suggests a possible link to John 8:3-6
