We are asked to confess what is indeed true. We see clear evidence for the veracity of the gospel. John was one of those who witnessed what God did in Christ and said so in 1John 1:1. The call of the gospel is universal and not restricted by geography or ethnicity. We cannot create true confession by having religious authorities force it. One must actually believe the truth of the gospel and not just cite church liturgy. God has called us to believe what He actually did in real history, and believing, we must abide in Christ. God’s love is not a fickle human emotion, but revealed forever and concretely by what He did in Christ. We must teach doctrine in the church so that there is solid content to people’s faith. We end by describing the universal call to salvation in the book of Isaiah.
