Live in the Situation of Your Calling: 1 Corinthians 7:17-20
June 18, 2023 Preacher: Bob DeWaay Series: 1 Corinthians
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 7:17-20
This sermon examines Paul’s teaching about the life situations of those converted through the gospel. Each person who is called out of their lost condition into fellowship with Christ and His people is to remain and live in the place where they were at the point of conversion.
Paul uses key terms to describe this which mean assigned, called, and conduct one’s life. We explain each Greek term in its context. The Lord, in His providence, calls different ones to Himself creating a witness to His saving grace is their own context.
The point is not to create a status upgrade in society, but a witness to the greatest status change ever: from sons and daughters of spiritual death to those having eternal life with Christ. What changes is not our situation, but our attitude toward our situation.
We are children of the King and that glorious truth does not depend on how important we were seen in the eyes of the world before our conversion. The corollary to this grand truth is that Christians must not bring worldly judgments of status into the church based on who they used to be.
All the redeemed belong to Christ and partakers of God’s eternal promises. We are called into the fellowship of the Son!
