Simon’s Sin (Acts 8:18-25)

Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Acts of the Apostles Scripture: Acts 8:18-25

Simon the sorcerer desired to buy the authority to impart the Holy Spirit to people. Peter sharply rebuked him, telling him that he and his money could go to perdition. When we are truly converted, we leave behind pagan ideas and trust Christ alone who has set us free. Simon is declared to have no portion in this “logos” which implies the gospel. Peter calls for repentance but there is no evidence Simon ever repented. We also discuss the fact that pagan thinking is prevalent everywhere and people would rather find a supposed holy man to pray for them than to come to Christ alone.
