Powerful Ministry in Ephesus: Acts 19:19-22 PART 2

August 14, 2022 Speaker: Bob DeWaay Series: Acts of the Apostles

Scripture: Acts 19:19-22

The value of the occult books burned by Ephesian converts (Acts 19:19) serves as the background for a discussion of popular teachings in modern evangelicalism which are compromised by pagan ideas. We study passages in Luke and Acts which  reveal how having a relationship with God through Christ makes us blessed no matter the circumstances of this life. The believers in Ephesus rejected magic and the occult because they now had a relationship with Christ. Those in Christ are blessed no matter what happens in the realm of the spirits. We have access to the throne of grace and we believe God’s promises. Sadly, many today misuse various passages in the Bible to claim that we need special knowledge of demons or curses to be free from undesirable situations. The promises of God in Christ do not depend on secret knowledge of techniques to break curses, but an eternal, saving relationship with God which transcends the bad fate or spiritual curses the pagans fear. We also show how God’s purposes go forward in Luke/Acts despite human and spiritual evil.
