Covert Rejection of Christ (3 John 9-10)

December 17, 2017 Preacher: Bob DeWaay Series: Epistles of John

Scripture: 3 John 9-10

In this sermon we address a man who refused to welcome messengers from John, a living apostle while expelling those who wanted to receive them. This shows that the most important issue is, “who speaks for God?” True apostles were trained and appointed by Jesus Christ. This issue is still pertinent today because there are so many false teachers who claim to speak for God. People are still being expelled who want to hear and welcome the truth. We give specific examples of how that happens. When the gospel is not welcome in a “gospel” church we have the same situation described in 3 John 9-10. We must preach Christ and reject various man-centered movements which will reject true gospel preachers. Diothrephes is named as such a person. There are many similar people today who need to be identified and corrected. The Bereans are people who wanted to find the truth in the Scriptures and believe it. We must do likewise
